How Many Times Should We Brush Our Child’s Teeth Daily?
Maintaining your child’s dental hygiene is crucial for healthy teeth and gums. But how often should you brush
their teeth? The general guideline is to brush at least twice a day: once in the morning and once before bedtime.
Brushing in the morning helps remove plaque and bacteria that build up overnight, while an evening brushing is
essential for removing food particles and plaque accumulated throughout the day. It’s particularly important to
brush before bed because saliva production decreases during sleep, making teeth more vulnerable to decay.
For younger children, parental supervision is key. Until they’re about 7 or 8 years old, children may lack the
dexterity to brush effectively on their own. Use a soft-bristled, child-sized toothbrush and a pea-sized amount
of fluoride toothpaste. Encourage your child to brush for two minutes, ensuring they cover all surfaces of their
teeth.
In addition to regular brushing, don’t forget the importance of flossing. Once your child has two teeth that touch,
you should start flossing daily to prevent cavities in between the teeth.
Regular dental check-ups are also essential. Schedule visits every six months to ensure your child’s teeth are
developing properly and to catch any issues early.
By establishing a consistent brushing routine, you set the foundation for a lifetime of good dental health for your
